About the game

Scum — also known as President — is a climbing card game. Be the first to empty your hand: win the round and you're President next round, finish last and you're Scum. Play singles, pairs, triples, or quads, and beat the pile or pass.

You can play solo against AI opponents, or online with 2–16 players over Apple's Game Center.

Common questions

I don't want to play online — do I need to sign in?

No. Solo play against AI opponents works with no Game Center account and no internet connection. Tap Play Game from the main menu. Game Center sign-in is only needed for online multiplayer.

The online options aren't showing up

Online features require you to be signed in to Game Center. Open the iOS Settings app, go to Game Center, and make sure you're signed in with your Apple Account. Then reopen Scum — the online options will appear in the lobby.

I can't find or join a game room

Public room browsing also requires iCloud. Check that you're signed in to iCloud in Settings and that iCloud Drive is enabled for the device. If a room code isn't working, confirm the host is still waiting on the room screen — room codes stop working once the game starts or the host leaves.

It's not my turn / the game seems stuck

Online games are turn-based: each player takes their turn in their own time, and you'll get a notification when it's your turn. If a player is taking too long, the host can set a turn timer when creating the game (1 hour to 3 days), after which that player's turn is played automatically. You can also send a nudge from the game screen.

I'm not getting turn notifications

Scum asks for notification permission after your first completed turn. If you declined, you can enable it in the iOS Settings app under Notifications → Scum.

How do the house rules work?

When creating a game you can turn on optional rules:

Note that 2 is the lowest card and Ace is the highest in this variant.
